On Monday, the sixth named storm of the 2024-25 season is due to move across some of the UK region affecting southwestern parts most notably Scotland with very strong and hazardous winds. An amber warning has already been given by the Met Office according to whom the winds in lower regions may go up to 90mph in particular coastal and hilly regions. There is a yellow warning in Northern England and Northern Ireland as well. Amber and Yellow Warnings Issued

In Scotland, the amber warning is operational between 10am and 10pm on Monday. The Met Office has cautioned that the force of wind can be 50-70 mph in most places with chances of reaching 80-90mph on the open coastal areas, hills, and bridges. At this wind strength, one should avoid the coastal regions and fasten any loosely outdoor objects. The damage and danger of large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, the roads and properties is also a serious risk with danger to life.

Yellow Warning Life North Regions

There is also a yellow warning in place over Northern England and Northern Ireland between 6am and midnight on Monday. Slightly less serious than the amber alert, people in these regions are advised to be prepared for extreme winds and possible traffic problems.

Storm Floris is the sixth named storm in the 2024/2025 storm season, which runs from September 2024 to August 31, 2025. The last named storm to affect the UK was Storm Eowyn in late January 2025.
